US sees North Korea’s deployment as Putin’s “desperation”

Washington (EFE).- The Pentagon acknowledged on Thursday that the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia shows that Russian President Vladimir Putin is “desperate” and has not achieved his war objectives in Ukraine.

“Putin has become so desperate that he is now requesting support from North Korea to potentially send his personnel to the battlefield,” Sabrina Singh, a deputy Pentagon spokeswoman, said at a news conference.

According to Ukrainian military intelligence, the number of North Korean troops stationed in Russia is about 12,000, of which 500 are officers, including three generals.

The same source indicated on its Telegram channel that the first units of the North Korean army, trained in training camps in eastern Russia, have already arrived in the combat zone of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. In particular, he said that their presence was recorded in the Russian region of Kursk on Wednesday.

A Pentagon deputy spokesperson said, “It remains to be seen what North Korean troops are actually doing in Russia, but again, it highlights that Putin has really failed to accomplish his strategic objectives “

America is waiting for North Korea’s support for Putin in the war

According to Singh, if those North Korean troops “engage in active combat operations inside Ukraine, it would be (somewhat) destabilizing for the Indo-Pacific.” “Of course, this will have an impact on our allies, whether it’s in Europe or the Indo-Pacific,” he said.

The spokesman stressed that if North Korean troops go to war, “they will be co-belligerents with Russia.” And this is a very serious issue.

In his appearance he also said that even their mere deployment to the region underlined that the United States has been successful in arming Ukraine and supporting that country with ground needs.

This Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin defended the treaty of mutual military assistance in the event of aggression with North Korea, but did not confirm the deployment of North Korean troops to Ukraine, as condemned by South Korea and the United States. Was done.
