Israel has sent a delegation to negotiate with Hamas for the release of the hostages
Israel has sent a delegation to negotiate a hostage release deal with Hamas, a government official said on Thursday, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened his security cabinet to discuss Hamas’ new position on the ceasefire deal.
Previous attempts to end the conflict were mediated by Egypt and Qatar, with talks taking place in both locations.
This Wednesday, Israel received Hamas’ response to a proposal made public by Biden in late May, which would include the release of about 120 hostages held in Gaza and a ceasefire in the Palestinian territory.
A Palestinian official involved in the mediation has said the militias have shown flexibility on some clauses, which, according to his analysis, would allow a framework agreement to be reached if Israel approves it.
“We hope this is the end of the war, we are exhausted and cannot take any more setbacks and disappointments,” said Youssef, a Palestinian father of two. They are all now displaced in Khan Younis, south of the enclave.
“Every hour more people die in this war, more homes are destroyed, so enough is enough. I say this to our leaders, to Israel and to the world.
On Thursday, Gaza’s health ministry published that the Palestinian death toll in nearly nine months of war has risen to more than 38,000, while 87,445 have been wounded. (Reuters)
