Hamas thanks Colombia’s President for announcing break with Israel
Hamas thanked Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro this Wednesday for announcing that his government will break diplomatic relations with Israel from Thursday in retaliation for the Israeli military offensive against the Gaza Strip, where more than 34,500 Palestinians have already been killed. Have done.
“We deeply appreciate the position of Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro, who has announced the severance of diplomatic relations with the occupier (in reference to Israel), and we consider this position a reflection of the sacrifice of our people and the victory of their just cause. Believe it,” reads a statement from Hamas.
Likewise, it has encouraged all Latin American countries and the rest of the world to follow in Colombia’s footsteps, as published in the Palestinian newspaper filastin On his Telegram channel.
For his part, Hamas political bureau member Ezzat al-Rishq assured that the decision is part of Israel’s “prelude to the inevitable end.”
Just hours earlier, Petro had announced during a rally that Colombia would break diplomatic relations with Israel as of Thursday due to him being a “genocidal” leader, in a reference to Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
Following the announcement, Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, slammed the social network, killing children, raping women and kidnapping innocent civilians.
The Colombian president had already threatened to break diplomatic relations if Israel did not comply with a UN Security Council-approved resolution calling for an “immediate” ceasefire during the month of Ramadan. The United States, which exercised its right of veto on three occasions, ‘greenlighted’ the text on 25 March.
Petro has been very active since last October 7, when Palestinian fighters attacked Israel, resulting in 1,200 deaths and 240 hostages. In fact, in January the Colombian President proposed a peace commission to move towards a cessation of hostilities and to launch new negotiations for the release of kidnapped people living in Gaza.
