Police evacuate pro-Palestinian students who barricaded themselves in the Sciences Po center in Paris
Police have entered the main headquarters of Sciences Po, the institute for political studies in Paris, to evacuate about 70 students who have been locked out since yesterday in protest against the war in Gaza.
The action took place without confrontation and at noon, amid a large police deployment, fifty students protested on the sidewalk on Saint Germain Boulevard, next to the educational center, surrounded by officers.
The students chanted, “Long live the struggle of the Palestinian people,” among other songs. Many people wear traditional Palestinian scarves. One sign reads: “The children of Gaza thank us.”
Sciences Po is the nursery of the French elite and an institution with global influence. On Thursday, May 2, several students occupied a room in the building and, in a meeting between students and the center’s management, they rejected a demand to abandon the agreement with Israeli universities, after which many of them Started hunger strike.
Hicham, a 22-year-old master’s student and one of those who started the hunger strike, told EL Pais that police dragged some students to the ground and tore down flags. “I will continue the hunger strike,” he said.
