If nothing changes, Apple will release iOS 18.1 with Apple Intelligence next Monday, October 28th.. Keep in mind that Apple’s AI will launch in beta and with a waitlist that may be longer once all users with Apple Intelligence-compatible devices want access.
We must also take into account that Apple Intelligence won’t be complete in iOS 18.1. There are many features that Apple continues to develop in its AI that we don’t expect to see until future updates. This is all Apple Intelligence has done in iOS 18.1:
- writing instruments– Users can rewrite, correct, and summarize text virtually anywhere, including Mail, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps.
- New Siri features:
- New design with a bright light that wraps around the edge of the screen when Siri is active.
- Ability to switch between text and voice to interact with Siri.
- Siri can now provide users with device support wherever they are and answer thousands of questions about how to do things on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
- Siri can monitor if users are tripping over words and maintain context from one request to the next.
- New features for mail:
- A new section at the top of your inbox displays your most urgent emails, such as same-day dinner invitations or boarding passes.
- In a user’s inbox, instead of previewing the first few lines of each email, they can view a summary without opening the message.
- Smart Reply provides quick response tips and identifies questions in the email to ensure all questions are answered.
- Reduce your breaks– A new approach that only shows notifications that may require immediate attention, such as text about early daycare pick-up.
- New Photo Features:
- You can use natural language to search for specific photos, such as “Maya ice skating in a tie-dye shirt” or “Katie with stickers on her face.”
- Video Search adds the ability to find specific moments in clips so users can jump straight to the relevant segment.
- Memories: Users can create the story they want to see by simply writing a description. Using language and image understanding, Apple Intelligence will select the best photos and videos based on description, create a story with chapters based on the themes identified in the photos, and organize them into a movie with its own storyline.
- Transcripts: Summary of transcripts.
Except, Apple Intelligence will be limited at launch in the US and in English. You can try Apple Intelligence on iPhone even if you’re outside the US, although it’s not highly recommended. Apple has confirmed that Apple Intelligence will soon be available in more languages, so we hope to have it available to most users by 2025.
