It can’t be distributed in Europe, where it’s not approved and where all indications are that it will be very difficult to get on the road, so we couldn’t drive it. Yes, we touched it and climbed on it. And we confirmed what we already imagined: the Tesla Cybertruck is something exceptional.
Who wants see it live They’ll have that opportunity next Sunday, May 26, at the Madrid Car Experience, where Tesla is also testing cars for those who want to get behind the wheel of their electric vehicles.
But before heading there, the Tesla Cybertruck made a stop in the center of Madrid. Near the Caixa Forum space, Tesla exhibited its most colorful and exaggerated car. The environment with straight silver lines looks like a replica of a car.
The first thing I thought when I saw the Tesla Cybertruck from afar and gradually approached the car was that it seemed bigger. He was waiting for us in a corner with low ceilings and dim lighting. All of this helped to slightly outshine Tesla’s latest car.
But when you get up close and stand next to the Cybertruck, you get an idea of just how huge this vehicle is. And yet I’m sure we couldn’t get a real idea of its size because there was no car near us that could be compared. The feeling was something like buying a TV. At a trade show, the screen never seems as big as it does in the living room.
Elon Musk’s madness is difficult to comprehend. Looks like a car that a child designed square and chamfer. It’s frighteningly simple. And at the same time, it is this simplicity that provides a feeling of much greater presence. Because completely smooth steel surfaces do not hide its enormous size.
Its visual weight is confirmed when we remember that we are looking at a car that is 5.68 meters long, 2.20 meters wide (2.41 meters with mirrors deployed) and 1.72 meters high. With the air suspension at the highest point we saw the car, it rose to a height of up to two meters.
For someone like me, who is less than 1.70 meters tall, standing next to him and turning my neck upward to see his ceiling is overwhelming. I also think that in the event of a collision with the suspension raised, the car would hit me almost at shoulder level.
Weighing in at 2,995 kg, it must be shocking to see that the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4.3 seconds. In its version with three motors, they hope to achieve acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds. Perhaps this way it can surpass the Porsche 911.
All of the above, as we have already said, is facilitated by stainless steel and its simple forms. It’s a little addictive to tap on the body and constantly hear this metallic sound. With the suspension up, we could see the enormous size of the shock absorbers and wheels (285/65 with 20-inch tires).
The interior is spacious for front passengers, but not so much for rear passengers. The rear cargo area is huge (1,700 litres) and the rear seats can be folded down to increase interior space. The rear part can be closed with a curtain, which is activated by a button located on the upper left side surface. Inside, it has two 120V outlets and one 240V outlet that allows for two-way charging.
Completing the appearance, accustomed to the huge CCS2 plugs, the small size of the Tesla proprietary socket for charging a maximum power of 250 kW is surprising.
Inside, Tesla’s configuration is repeated: minimalism to the extreme. The front seats feel comfortable, which is a common trend for the company. The steering wheel is a joke type. I had a feeling that it must be very uncomfortable to drive with such a steering wheel, but obviously this is just an impression since we couldn’t control it.
There is a front screen 18.5 inches (2560×1440, 60Hz), and the rear touchscreen size is 9.4 inches (1440×900, 60Hz). Using the rear panel, you can control some functions such as music and heated seats.
Some things have been changed in the front infotainment system software. The home screen has a more elegant look, with a car in the foreground and a small reminder to the right that you’ll always have your navigator at your fingertips.
At the bottom we have two widgets especially dedicated to the Tesla Cybertruck, where the ride height or tire pressure is monitored. In one of them we can have direct access to control the music being played.
Once the menu is displayed, its layout is exactly the same as in any other corporate car, so the changes are small aesthetic changes that do however match an interface that is starting to get a little dated. The system’s response and smoothness continue to be exceptional.
On the other hand, the Tesla Cybertruck shown had white door trim. A solution that, although it gives the interior a little more warmth and diffuses the feeling internal tension, seems not entirely accurate. While the journalists were walking back and forth, some of the material was already dirty.
In short, the car is impressive. And I think we’d be even more impressed if we had the chance to compare it to another car, or even see it in a real-world setting. All in all, whether you like it more or less, I encourage everyone who is able and willing to come on this journey that Tesla is taking across Europe, because it will certainly not leave you indifferent.
