Welcome to the era of mobile artificial intelligence

Developing the Galaxy S24 series has been the most rewarding time of my career. As an engineer, I have witnessed many examples of incredible innovation, but AI is the most transformative technology of the century. Few engineers have the opportunity to participate in something with such explosive potential. This means big changes not only for Samsung and the mobile phone industry, but for all of humanity.

Simply put, artificial intelligence integrated into phones is becoming a revolution. Mobile devices will become the primary access point for artificial intelligence, and with our broad and comprehensive product portfolio, legacy of innovation and open collaboration philosophy, we are uniquely positioned to accelerate its global expansion. We will make mobile AI easily accessible and open up new opportunities for everyone.

Discover new possibilities

We’ve received great feedback on how people are actually using AI features in their daily lives. One of the most popular AI features is Flag for Google Search, an amazing new tool for intuitive searching. Our communication tools to bridge language barriers, such as simultaneous translation, writing assistant and interpreter, have captured the imagination of many. People also love Photo Assist, our creative tools powered by ProVisual Engine.

Once again, we’ve just begun. When developing the S24 series, we had many ideas and concepts that we wanted to bring to life. Users will be able to experience more features based on these ideas and concepts as we continually improve and expand the capabilities of mobile AI.

In addition, we are already planning our next steps beyond smartphones, optimizing for different device categories and services. In the near future, select Galaxy wearables will use artificial intelligence to improve digital health and usher in a whole new era of enhanced smart healthcare experiences.

The next big thing is YOU

Over the past year, we’ve often wondered what users want or need, and what they could get with a little help. These questions inspired us to create the first AI phone that invites users to imagine how their lives could be changed by AI. It is the phone of the future, setting the standard for mobile AI and defining a new category of AI phones.

Of course, there are challenges and responsibilities to consider. Artificial intelligence models that are still learning are still susceptible to hallucinations, and debates over intellectual property rights continue. It is critical that companies openly collaborate to carefully define AI experiences so that users can confidently and reliably use their new skills.

It is also important to improve security and privacy standards in this new era of data-intensive mobile apps. This is one of the reasons we chose a hybrid approach that combines on-device and cloud-based AI. In addition to providing usability, this allows users to restrict certain features to run entirely on the device, giving them more control over what they do with their data.
