What’s on in Isfahan? City attacked by Israel where Iranian nuclear facilities are located

Isfahan, in central Iran, is home to several major military facilities, including nuclear facilities, a major airport, and factories related to Iranian production of drones and other military products.

The Iranian Fars news agency’s first report focused on “three explosions” recorded near Qahjaverestan, near Isfahan Airport and Shekhri Army Airport, while Iranian Space Agency spokesman Hossein Dalirian claimed there were “several” drones. Successfully shot down.”

While the well-known Natanz uranium enrichment facility is located in the province, Iran’s uranium conversion facility is located in the Zerdenjan area, southeast of Isfahan.

After Iranian officials said their nuclear facilities were “safe”, Tasnim news agency reported from around a uranium conversion facility. The video segment showed images of two different anti-aircraft gun positions, and details in the video matched known features of the site of Iran’s uranium conversion facility in Isfahan.

“At 4:45 we heard gunshots. Nothing was happening,” the journalist said. “It was anti-aircraft defense, those guys you see, and there too.”

The Isfahan facility, construction of which began in 1999, operates three small research reactors supplied by China, as well as handles fuel production and other activities for Iran’s civilian nuclear program. It is believed that an eruption occurred at this site in November 2011.

Isfahan is also home to a major Iranian air base, which houses a fleet of American-made F-14 Tomcats acquired before the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Some early speculation suggested that a radar facility at the base might be the target of attack.

Equally important are Iran’s weapons production facilities in and around the city. Early last year an attack was carried out in the name of Israel on what was believed to be an advanced weapons production facility in the city, which, like the current attack, involved three drones.

Like the current attack, there were highly contradictory statements from Iranian officials, who said Sunday that two drones had been shot down and another had caused only minor damage to a factory roof.
