From March 1, WhatsApp users will be able to read and send messages to other people who are using another application without leaving it.
Main reason? The new Digital Markets Act comes into force, requiring gatekeepers with more than 45 million users on the European continent, take a number of measures, including compatibility, to improve the service.
Despite this good news, it also brought some bad news: WhatsApp will stop working on more than 30 devices of different brands.
I left almost all WhatsApp groups and this is the best thing I could do for my peace of mind.
This is not something new. Every now and then Meta announces a series of devices that are no longer compatible with its messaging app, and with drastic changes like the one they’ll be facing in March, that’s to be expected.
So what is causing this? As the company points out on the official WhatsApp page, the exception for these devices is that they do not meet current security standards or they are a very outdated version of the software.
In this case, The notch runs on Android 5.0 or iOS 12 in the case of iPhone. All of these devices do not meet safety standards and are therefore not serviceable.
Here’s the full list of devices WhatsApp won’t work on from March:
Apart from this list of major brands, there are other affected devices that will not be able to use the messaging app in the coming weeks: Faea F1THL W8, Wiko Cink Five, Winko Darknight and Archos 53 Platinum.
Therefore, if you want to continue using WhatsApp, you need to change your mobile phone to a more modern one.
