Why do we feel colder as we age?

As we get older, we are likely to experience more cold sensations. And aging causes certain changes that interfere with our ability to adapt to environmental temperatures, even if they are not extreme.

Why do older people get cold?

Likewise, in such situations, special attention needs to be paid to people with Parkinson’s disease, dementia, stroke or other conditions that affect mobility, as they may find it more difficult to dress properly, and if they do not, it may pose a greater risk of hypothermia and loss of health more quickly. warm.

Signs of hypothermia in older people

Among such diseases that can cause a feeling of cold are the following:

  • Undiagnosed diabetes. Excessive feeling of cold in older people may be associated with this disease. In this situation, they may also experience thirst, increased urination, and unexplained weight loss.

Therefore, when an elderly person feels severe cold, excessive in relation to the ambient temperature, we advise contacting a specialist to rule out another possible disease.
