Your motorcycles for Europe will be electric

EICMA (Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori, acronym in Italian) has opened its doors. And the curious, who came to learn first-hand about the latest developments in the motorcycle market, found an offer from Honda in which electric mobility takes priority.

“Local parking laws in European cities change usage settings ICE (internal combustion) vehicles, changing the landscape of urban mobility,” defends Honda, introducing a new internal combustion model, but above all, two new concept electric motorcycles and another all-electric variant.

Passion and practicality

In all cases, Honda has focused on reaching all types of audiences in this EICMA presentation.

Honda CL500

First up is the Honda CL500, a review of a motorcycle clearly inspired by the sixties and seventies, which will be available to bikers with Card A2. To achieve this, it is equipped with a 471 cc parallel twin engine that produces up to 46 PS of power. The ECU has been redesigned to include an OBD2-2 sensor to meet the Euro 5+ standard.

It has a six-speed transmission with power assist/slipper clutch and ABS for the front and rear brakes. They also feature LED front and rear lights and an LCD screen on the instrument panel.

For safety reasons, the hazard lights turn on during heavy braking. Honda claims that the motorcycle is suitable for “light off-road use,” although it is expected that use will be primarily urban.

Crossover e: 2025

Honda is adding a new all-electric model to its European lineup. The company notes that plans remain to bring 10 all-electric variants to market worldwide in 2025.

The new model brings to life crossover ES (Clean Urban Vehicle Electric Scooter, abbreviation in English). A motorcycle launched on the Japanese market in 1994 and maintaining the philosophy of one of the most environmentally friendly models at the moment.

The new bike is a more ambitious alternative to the EM:1, just like its older brother. In this case, it has a double set of replaceable 48V/1.3kW batteries. The engine can generate power up to 6 kW (8.16 hp). Its maximum speed is 83 km/h and its range exceeds 70 kilometers.

It has LED lighting, a USB-C charging port, a five-inch TFT instrument panel screen and up to seven-inch zoom on Roadsync Duo models, including navigation functions with charging point visibility. In addition, keyless start has been added.

Regarding driving modeshas three variants (Standard, Sport and ECONOMY), to which we must add a reversing assistant for entering and exiting tight parking spaces.

The batteries weigh 10kg and the fan-cooled charger is powered by 100-240V single-phase household AC power and produces a maximum power of 270W. A full charge takes six hours from the mains, but we will have 75% available from zero in three hours. The company claims 2,500 charging cycles are guaranteed.

Honda EV Fun Concept

To the two previous motorcycles should be added two prototypes that the Japanese company presented at the EICMA exhibition.

This project is also exploring the development of batteries compatible with CCS2 charging, which support fast charging and therefore provide a range of more than 100 kilometers while ensuring very short waiting times between charges.
