Melbourne (AFP) – Novak Djokovic’s relentless march towards his 25th Grand Slam title gained momentum on Sunday when he defeated 20th-seeded Frenchman Adrien Mannarino to reach the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.

The Serbian dominated his opponent at Rod Laver Arena, winning 6-0, 6-0, 6-3 and underlining his status as the overwhelming favorite to win his 11th title at Melbourne Park.
The world number one reaches the last 16 of a Grand Slam tournament for the 58th time, equaling Roger Federer’s record, while maintaining tight control of the game.
He has won 32 matches in a row at the Australian Open, going undefeated since losing to South Korean Chung Hyun in 2018.
The 10-time champion did not compete in 2022 due to a coronavirus vaccine.
Djokovic, 36, got off to a slow start to his 2024 Australian Open campaign, battling a virus and losing sets in his first two matches, but his level has risen sharply since then.
The Serbian, who is a year older than his opponent, said he played “excellent from the first point to the last.” “The last two days have been really good,” he added. “I’m going in a positive direction.”
Djokovic will face either seventh seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas or 12th seeded American Taylor Fritz to reach the semi-finals.
