There’s no doubt that each year the competition gets tighter for the three main categories: Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year, the nominations begging the big question: who will be the winners?
record of the year
Candidates for the Album of the Year category include musical titans like Bad Bunny, with the album ‘Un verano sin ti’; Harry Styles, with ‘Harry’s House’; Beyoncé, with her seventh studio album, ‘Renaissance’; ‘Special’, by Lizzo; Adele’s ’30’; ‘Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers’ by rapper Kendrick Lamar and ‘Voyage’, ABBA’s latest project.
Despite the fact that the competition is fierce, due to the success of all the aforementioned albums, ‘A Summer Without You’, ’30’, ‘Renaissance’ and ‘Harry’s House’ are the studio albums with the best chance of rising as The category winner, however, is Beyoncé’s sixth project that leads, according to analysis by Billboard magazine.
With ‘Renaissance,’ Beyoncé not only marked her return to the music scene after a four-year absence, she also earned her fourth Album of the Year nomination at the awards, after becoming the artist with the most Grammys in history, in 2019.
The album has been well received by fans and critics since its release, and debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart, with 332,000 units sold, making it the second best-selling album by a female artist in 2022.
“Renaissance” also had a place in the top 5 of the best albums of the year on charts like Billboard and Rolling Stones, leading experts to believe that it will be able to take the title of Best Album of the Year at the awards ceremony on Sunday.
Other nominations
Adele, Lizzo, Steve Lacy and Harry Styles are the artists who have a good chance of winning the Record of the Year award. According to Billboard’s predictions, ‘As it was’, the lead single from Styles’ latest record project, will be this year’s winning song in the category.
After the artist won the Grammy in 2021 for his hit, “Watermelon Sugar,” he became a favorite for critics nominations. With ‘As it was’, he managed to reach number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 15 consecutive weeks, being the song by a British artist with the longest time at the top of the ranking, not to mention that so far it is the song by an artist male with the Guinness record for most views in 24 hours, which makes it the first choice for the Record of the Year award.
On the other hand, her compatriot, Adele seems to be the favorite to win the Song of the Year award with her single ‘Easy on me’ from her latest studio album to date, ’30’. This song was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for 10 consecutive weeks, being the song with the most weeks in that position by a singer in 2022.
With this song, she is also nominated for three other Grammys categories, including Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
