Gasoline enjoyed a week of gains and reached its highest price since December

In the last days of December, the first hint appeared that the price of gasoline had reached a minimum. It was the day when gas station signs went up just one cent for a few hours. It quickly returned to normal and in the first minutes of 2024 the situation remained the same. No ups and downs. But the reality is now completely different, when illuminated signs at gas stations already reflect a clear increase in prices. Valladolid has seen an increase in the cost of refueling cars for two weeks, with prices already reaching December prices.

This Friday the price will be set at 1,511 euros per liter of diesel and 1,568 euros per liter of gasoline. If we take a 55-liter tank as a guide, the total cost increases to 83 and 86 euros, respectively. The difference is that in December, when the 2023 minimum price was reached, refueling a car with these characteristics cost a total of 81 and 84 euros. The situation changed on February 7, as evidenced by data from the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Problems. In the first days of the month, the situation was stable, there was even a slight decline, which ended on that day. Since then it has not stopped growing. And still is. The week when the cost in the province increased by 2%.

The last time such prices were reached in Valladolid, according to the ministry’s schedules, was in early December. In particular, on the 1st and 4th of this month, when fuel prices were in full swing due to the delay by OPEC member countries in concluding agreements on new cuts, which led to a reduction in crude oil production in the month of May and caused a constant increase until Bye September. The annual minimum will reach the province on December 19, shortly before the start of the Christmas campaign. Soon there was the first increase in two months, then the situation softened until last week, since then the increase has become more noticeable.

The current price still remains below the level of a year ago, when the price of gasoline was 1.606 euros per liter and diesel fuel was 1.634 euros. In annual terms, the cost of refueling was reduced by 2% and 7%, respectively. It should also be noted that a year ago we were in the first weeks after the end of the government-approved 20-cent discount that was applied when visiting gas stations.

Differences between gas stations

As usual, there are differences between gas stations in Valladolid itself, with prices varying depending on the gas station you choose to fill up at. In the case of the cheapest, the price is 1,435 euros per liter of gasoline and 1,335 euros per liter of diesel. That is, 79 and 73 euros respectively for a 55-liter tank. For the most expensive ones in the city, the price increases to 1,639 euros per liter of gasoline and 1,629 euros for diesel fuel. Refilling costs 90 and 89 euros in each case, a difference of more than fifteen euros depending on the station chosen for refueling.

Castile and Leon

The cost of filling up in Valladolid has risen in line with the rest of the country, as well as in Castile and León. In Spain, the average is now 1,591 euros per liter of gasoline and reaches 1,553 euros per liter of diesel. Thus, the province’s level is below the national average. The case of the community is different because it is located over Spain. The average price in Castile and Leon is 1,595 euros per liter of gasoline and 1,557 euros per liter of diesel. There are also noticeable differences between the provinces themselves, where there is a five-cent difference in the two types of fuel between the most expensive and the cheapest.
