I am a nutritionist and immediately excluded these three healthy foods from my menu.

The vast majority of people strive to feel better every day and take care of their health through healthy eating. There is no food that contains all the nutrients needed by the human body. For this reason, the ideal diet is one that includes a variety of nutritious and fresh foods. But there are certain foods that we think are good for our health, when in fact they are not. For this reason, Ana Luzon, based on her own experience and consultation as a senior nutrition and dietetics specialist, eliminated three foods from her shopping list because they do not provide sustainable energy and can cause insulin spikes.

Three products that almost never end up in your home:

Bread and white flour

According to Luzon, these foods are very low in fiber, so they are unsatisfying and don’t provide consistent energy. Its consumption quickly increases insulin and blood sugar levels. Thus, frequent consumption of these types of high glycemic index foods can cause metabolic changes in our body that create a greater risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity, or diabetes, among other things.

Therefore, if we choose these foods, but eat them whole instead of refined ones, their glycemic index will drop significantly and it will take us longer to digest their sugars.

Light products

Many people decide to replace conventional products with analogues. Light or zero thinking they are healthier. But in reality they create an illusion. As Ana Luzon explains, “All the comfort foods marketed to women for weight control, from low-fat yogurts to whole grain bars… are less filling and create a halo effect that leads to overeating. Additionally, fats are almost always replaced with sugar, which we are not interested in because substitutes such as artificial sweeteners are used and these are not healthier.”

Natural juices and industrial juices

According to the latest scientific evidence, we should consume at least five servings of fruits and vegetables per day, preferably three vegetables and two servings of fruit. But neither juice nor smoothie They can be compared to a piece of fruit. According to Luzon, any fruit juice, no matter how natural, loses its structure, fiber and most of the essential microelements. The predominance of sugar is converted in a manner harmful to health. Therefore, “when this sugar is consumed in liquid, compressed form and without the use of fiber or food matrix, the glycemic peak or blood sugar level increases dramatically. This does not happen with whole fruits, which require processing after chewing and digestion, with adequate fiber and satiating properties.”
