Ibex hits 9,900 integers on opening as ArcelorMittal leads gains

VALENCIA (EP). The Ibex 35 index started this Thursday’s session with a gain of 0.23%, bringing it to 9910.5 points, on a day marked by the publication of the economic bulletin of the European Central Bank (ECB).

In this context, investors will remain attentive to statements made by a number of members of the European Banking Organization, chaired by Christine Lagardeamong them, Frank Elderson And Philip R. Lane.

Under the business umbrella, ArcelorMittal reported to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) that it ended the 2023 financial year with a net profit of $919 million (852.17 million euros), representing a drop of 90.12% compared to the result. recorded in 2022.

The company explained that 2023 results were “severely” impacted by the “tragic” accident at the Kostenko mine in the Karaganda region, located in central Kazakhstan, on October 28, 2023.

In the early stages of the session on Thursday, the biggest gains in the Ibex 35 index were recorded by ArcelorMittal (+2.34%), BBVA (+0.73%), Colonial (+0.66%) and Banco Santander (+0.65%) , and the “red” lanterns were Grifols (-0.44%), Acciona Energía (-0.43%), Iberdrola (-0.42%) and Cellnex (-0.36%).

European stock markets showed mixed dynamics. In particular, Milan shares fell 0.12%, while London, Paris and Frankfurt rose 0.26%, 0.14% and 0.07% respectively.

At the stock market open, the price of a barrel of Brent crude, the benchmark for the Old Continent, rose 0.37% to $79.5, while in Texas it was $74.1, or 0.32% higher.

In the foreign exchange market, the price of the euro against the dollar rose to US$1.0779, and in the debt market, the required interest rate on 10-year Spanish bonds rose to 3.239%.
