Visibly excited as he sang his speech, surrounded by his teammates Athletic (including Iñaki Williams on crutches after recent surgery) and receives a framed shirt from José Angel Iribar. This is how Dani Garcia said goodbye one Thursday in Lezama his impermanence was announced at the club the following season, thus ending six years as a player for the red and whites.
Firstly, midfielder Zumárraghi, who turns 34 this Friday, wanted thanks to “Jos Urrutia and José Mari Amorrort for thinking of me at a certain moment which I thought would never come, and it finally came. “I have enjoyed these six years incredibly.” He later recalled “fans because sometimes I did it better, sometimes worse, but I always left everything on the field for Athletic.
“They have always treated me with great respect and love, and I thank them for that.”
With his words he showed his affection for the people who accompanied him every day for six seasons. He thanked the members of the first team and the Lezama coaching staff for their closeness in the most difficult moments: “I told you many times, but From the first day of my arrival from Eibar, you treated me as if I had lived here for ten years. and from this year to this day nothing has changed. This year I was sad many days and I walked into the car in a bad mood and every time I walked through the door you lifted my spirits. and you and my colleagues and I have to thank you, you already know that you have a friend here for everything you want.
Among his comrades, he singled out, first of all, his human qualities: “As for football, we have nothing to talk about, but I think that throughout life you meet people along the way, they shape your lifestyle a little. I think that here I found a lot of people who gave me values that I lacked as a person.
And I think that I leave a better person, more humble and most of all an athlete at heart. Thanks everybody”.
Before he was mobbed by his first team teammates, Iribar and Iker Muniain thanked them for their contributions to Athletic over the past six years. “It has been a great honor to have Dani Garcia with us for six seasons. In terms of sports, he has done a lot. We wish you good luck on your new journey. I hope he remembers this little tribute for the rest of his life!” said El Chopo.
In turn, the captain of the red and white emphasized that “it was nice to see you all these six years that you were with us. I think you’ll be a little sorry that you couldn’t say goodbye to San Mamés the other day. but I am convinced that the whole of San Mamés and all the athletes will always remember you with great love and the way you deserve it in their hearts. You have led by example and by example both on and off the field, always showing good humor and integrating from day one. and this is your group of friends and you will always have them. We wish you all the best for the future, I’m sure you will do well.”
