Israeli tanks attack two hospitals in northern Gaza – DW – 05/22/2024

The Israeli army attacked with artillery this Tuesday (05/21/2024) two main hospitals in the north of the Gaza Strip, once again crippling an increasingly fragile health system.

Kamal Adwan Hospital, in the northern neighborhood of Beit Lahiya and under military siege for three days, stopped working today after Israeli tanks attacked both the reception and emergency department of this medical center with projectiles.

The Health Ministry of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), which controls the occupied West Bank territory in a fragmented manner, said in a statement that the forces attacked the hospital, where there were “about 150 members of medical personnel of various specialties, dozens of patients and wounded in intensive care and surgery, and several children in incubators.”

At least 15 patients were unable to leave the hospital, including two women who had recently given birth and others connected to machines, according to Hossam Abu Safia, director of the centre, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Nowhere is safe in northern Gaza

“There is no safe place in northern Gaza. Everyone is a (military) target: hospitals, homes, schools, shelters, streets and markets,” he described Palestinian journalist Anas Al on social networks today. Gentry.

The other hospital under Israeli military siege for the third consecutive day is Al Awda, located in the northern city of Jabalia. Its acting director, Mohammed Salha, told EFE that the army fired on several buildings of the center and nearby houses early this morning.

The director of the center, the only hospital with maternity services and orthopedic surgery in northern Gaza, reported that Al Awda no longer has drinking water and has only fuel for three days and medical supplies for ten days.
