Kaitlyn Dever and Hannah Murray join Kathryn Bigelow’s photo of Detroit riots; Indie ‘Walden’ Adds Demian Bichir and TJ Miller
Kaitlyn Dever And Hannah Murray are the latest additions to the cast of Kathryn Bigelow’s film about race riots in Detroit half a century ago. There are no details about their roles, but the pair will join Jacob Latimore, Algee Smith, Will Poulter, Ben O’Toole, Jack Reynor and John Boyega in the film, which was written by Mark Boal and financed by Annapurna. The crime drama explores systemic racism in urban Detroit, set against the backdrop of devastating urban riots that occurred over five summer days in 1967. Dever’s works include: Men, Women and Children, Short Term 12, Exciting Times, J. Edgar And Bad teacher. She is repped by UTA and Voelker Toczek. Murray takes on the role of Gilly Game of Thrones and she was part of the original cast of the British series Shells. She is represented by UTA, Management 360 and Troika. She also has The Chosen One, Dark Shadows And Chat.
Demian Bichir And TJ Miller joined Lynn Cohen, Eric Hellman, Tony LoVerde, Chris Sullivan and Jamie Horton in Walden: Life in the Woods, an indie film filming in Colorado. Alex Harvey will direct from a script by Adam Chanzit. A reimagining of Henry David Thoreau’s treatise on nature, weaves three tales about the trappings of 21st-century life and a few unlikely Transcendentalists who dangerously dream of escape. The narrative features stop-motion animation by Laura Goldhamer, who also composes the original music. Mitch Dickman, Shane Boris and Allison Greenberg are producing and Film director magazine co-founder and editor Scott Macaulay executive producer. The film was partially funded by philanthropists and arts investors in the region and received an incentive package from the Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media. The Denver Film Society also sponsors it.
