LaLiga rejects the registration of Gavi’s new contract with Barcelona

BARCELONA – LaLiga rejected the documentation presented by Barcelona in order to register the new professional contract that the Blaugrana club agreed with the young Gavi last September, according to sources confirmed to ESPN.
Gavi, 18, burst into Barça’s first team last season but has played with the Blaugrana subsidiary ever since. The club wanted to reward the footballer at the beginning of the season with a salary commensurate with his new role in the first team and both parties made the agreement official in September.
However, said agreement was waiting to be approved by LaLiga and different sources confirm to ESPN that the body chaired by Javier Tebas decided to reject it.
Barça had to activate up to four levers last summer to be able to register all their signings and LaLiga alleges that the Barça club continues to have its wage bill out of date.
The increase in Gavi’s salary would make the situation worse, which is why from LaLiga they insist that Barça must increase their income or reduce their salary mass with the departure of some footballers.
In this sense, during the last weeks, Barça believed that the withdrawal of Gerard Piqué and the departure of Memphis Depay to Atlético de Madrid for three million fixed euros and one in variables was going to be enough to register Gavi’s new contract. before January 31.
However, LaLiga understands that Barça still has its salary mass outdated.
Another similar case is that of Ronald Araújo. The Uruguayan, who also renewed in April last year until 2026, has not yet been able to be registered in LaLiga but the player, as ESPN learned, has full confidence that the executives of the Barça entity will manage to reverse the situation.
For their part, Alejandro Balde and Iñaki Peña continue to negotiate their renewals with Barça. However, the goalkeeper has already debuted with a professional number (13) in the Copa del Rey.
Barcelona sources consulted by ESPN maintain the hope of being able to register Gavi soon. The young midfielder, like the rest of the players considered by the club as “strategic”, will have a termination clause of one billion euros once he can sign up for his new contract but currently it remains at 50 million.
