Norris beats Verstappen to earn PhD in Miami; Sainz 4th and Alonso 9th
Lando Norris achieved victory in the Miami Grand Prix, before Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. This first victory for the young British McLaren in Formula 1, who received his last doctorate in Florida, as a great motorsport star, in a race in which he was decisively helped by the safety car, but where he later won on the asphalt.
A The “safety car” when Lando had not yet stopped to change his tires saved him a lot of time during the forced stop, allowing him to return before everyone else and confirm victory. Departure: (V1/57): The Czech Crusade that harmed Carlos
Sainz had a great start and overtook Leclerc, but the Mexican passed in front of the Madrid native while braking at 1pm and forced him to brake. He again lost position with his teammate and Piastri.
Alonso took three places on the first lap, but was overtaken by Gasly on the second lap and was 13th, followed by Ocon.
Piastri overtakes Leclerc (V5)
Great overtake and second place, and Carlos was in 16th place.
Ocon overtook Alonso (V13)
The Asturian was also overtaken by the second Alpine, although Fernando walked harder and longer.
Headstands (V18), Czech party opening
Leclerc entered on the 20th lap, Sainz remained third, and Alonso, unstopped, was 11th. The Monegasque was sixth, but Norris improved his time, as did Verstappen, Carlos and Piastri.
Virtual Safety Car (V23)
Max took the bollard and the virtual safety car opened to remove him from the track. Alonso was able to pit and save 8 seconds on his stop, as did Ocon.
Verstappen came to a stop on lap 24 and came back fourth, with Piastri in the lead.
Alonso overtook Gasly (V24) to take 14th. On lap 25 he overtook Hulkenberg for 13th place (V26).
Safety Car due to Magnussen accident and (V29)
Norris was in the lead and Sainz came out on lap 28 but was very unlucky because if he had waited another lap he would have been first. Lando returned to the track a brand new first on lap 30 with 27 remaining. Sainz was fifth and Alonso 11th.
Restart (V23: Lando retained his position
A magnificent comeback from Norris who held off Verstappen.
Carlos tried to get around Piastri, but the Australian went long and took out the Spaniard with one touch. This seemed like a clear sanction and was noted, but again the stewards did not sanction the Australian. At the front, Norris was 2.5 seconds ahead of Max, who complained about the car being out of control.
Sainz, pass to Piastri in v40
A very angry Carlos overtook Piastri after Madrid and damaged his wing while defending himself. The Madrid native moved up to fourth place and onto the podium.
Piastri entered the penalty area to change the front wing, so Alonso ended up 10th in points.
Alonso wins the beautiful Battle of Ocon (V49)
Fernando was two laps ahead of his former teammate, who was defending hard but clearly, and overtook him for ninth place with 8 laps remaining.
At the front, Norris led Verstappen by 5.8 seconds. Carlos was 3 seconds behind Leclerc on the podium, but was unable to attack him.
Nothing changes until the very end, when the champion is defeated by Norris.
