To understand the disappointment of this figure, we only need to remember that it was previously believed that the icy surface of the Moon was generated at a rate of 1000 kg per second. It’s logical that calculation from 1000 to 12 kg was very disappointing, so much so that it destroyed many ideas and theories expressed about this satellite of Jupiter. One of them, as we said, was to turn this place into a possible candidate for humanity, in a hypothetical future, to move to this place to continue its existence.

Is there hope?

Currently, interest and excitement about continuing to study Moon Europa has increased. decreased so sharply that most projects or studies that might have been in the works have probably been shelved. In the published study, they explain how particles from space hit the Moon and impact the icy surface. In doing so, it releases a combination of hydrogen and oxygen molecules. To better understand this, they also argue that this frozen surface acts as a protective barrier to the ocean below, preventing that radiation can come into contact straight. They define it as if it were a huge lung that protects the entire interior of the Moon from harmful substances trying to penetrate inside.

But even if humanity found as much oxygen in Europe as they thought, we must not forget that the idea of ​​​​moving to this place was very difficult. This concept is bordering on science fiction at this point and does not leave aside the fact that Europe is not a place where you can live just as it happens on Earth. We will have to wonder whether conditions on the almost destroyed Earth will really be worse than on the moon of Jupiter, where we will have to live in bases protected from radiation. And that’s not counting the hundreds of other problems that can arise.

Therefore, the good news is that humanity is not closing its doors and continues to explore the possibility of traveling to the Moon or Mars. This is not a negative thing because if we had to resort to Europe with that much oxygen, only 1 million people would be able to breathe comfortably.
