The US spacecraft launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, with the goal of making a controlled landing on the surface of the Moon.

It is expected to be the first American mission to make a soft landing on the Moon in 51 years. first produced by a private company.

Pittsburgh-based Astrobotic was hired by NASA to land a robotic lunar module called Peregrine with five scientific instruments on board.

However, hours after launch, Astorobotic announced that the spacecraft experienced “an anomaly that prevented it from consistently pointing its solar panels at the Sun, which could have jeopardized the mission.”
