Science Puts Vitamin D in the Spotlight for Its Link to Tumors

In recent years there has been more and more talk about Vitamin D and the need to maintain adequate levels to maintain good health. Of course, without overdoing it with additives.

Among its advantages is the ability to save the immune systemthat according to a new study published in the journal The sciencemay be useful during immunotherapy used to treat some tumors.

The study was developed by scientists from the Francis Crick Institute in London, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the USA and Aalborg University (Denmark), who studied how vitamin D affects the composition and development of intestinal microbiota.

According to research, vitamin D promotes the growth of certain intestinal bacteria whose activity is associated with a positive immune response in women to cancer. In particular, vitamin D contributed to increased immune resistance to tumors and enhanced response to immunotherapy treatments.

For the researchers themselves, this connection came as a “surprise”, so they will continue to investigate to fully understand how vitamin D manages to influence the microbiota in this way.
