Store hours, banks and more that open and close in the US.

(CNN) — After the New Year, many people will also have to resolve some business, be it returning money or going to the supermarket.

Many retail stores, grocery stores and pharmacies will be open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, although some have changed their hours.

This year, New Year’s Eve falls on a Sunday, so some services, such as banking or postal delivery, will be closed.

Here’s what’s open and closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Retailers

  • Target will be open on December 31 from 8:00 to 22:00 local time. On New Year’s Day, Target stores will open a little later at 9 a.m. and close at 10 p.m.
  • Walmart will be open both days.
  • JCPenney stores will open at 11 a.m. on New Year’s Eve, and you’ll need to check your local store hours for closing times. On New Year’s Day, stores will be open from 11:00 to 18:00 local time.
  • Most Macy’s stores will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and will remain open for business as usual on New Year’s Day.
  • TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Sierra and Homesense stores will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
  • Kohl’s will be open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on New Year’s Eve and from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm on the first day of the year.

Supermarkets

  • Whole Foods is open both days with modified hours depending on location. Kroger will be open as usual.
  • Aldi closes early on New Year’s Eve and will remain closed on New Year’s Day.
  • Trader Joe’s will close at 5:00 pm on New Year’s Eve and will remain closed throughout New Year’s Day.
  • Costco’s New Year’s Eve hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be closed on New Year’s Day.
  • Wegmans will close at 8:00 pm on New Year’s Eve and reopen on New Year’s Day at 6:00 am, except for the Astor Place and Brooklyn stores in New York City, which will open at 7:00 am.

  • Safeway and Albertsons stores will be open December 31st and January 1st.
  • Jewel-Osco, ACME and Shaw’s stores and pharmacies will be open on reduced hours on New Year’s Eve. On New Year’s Day, stores will be open, but most pharmacies will be closed.
  • Vons stores and pharmacies will be open on New Year’s Eve. They will be open on New Year’s Day with modified hours, although their pharmacies will be closed.
  • Tom Thumb stores and pharmacies will remain open on New Year’s Eve, although pharmacy hours will be reduced. Tom Thumb stores will be open on New Year’s Day, but pharmacies will be closed.

Pharmacy

CVS said many stores will be open through the New Year, but you should check with your local stores before visiting as some may have reduced hours or be closed.

Rite Aid stores will remain open as usual on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Walgreens will be open during regular business hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve, but pharmacy hours vary by location.

Postal service

The US Postal Service will not deliver mail on New Year’s Day.

There is no UPS delivery or pickup available on New Year’s Day, but Express Critical service is available. FedEx will not operate regular pickups or deliveries on New Year’s Eve, but home, office and essential customs services will remain open. FedEx will be closed on New Year’s Day with the exception of Custom Critical.

banks

Most banks follow Federal Reserve holidays, so most teller services will be closed on New Year’s Day. As always, you can use mobile banking and ATM services.

The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will not trade on New Year’s Day.
