The best version of Ghost of Tsushima is on PC, but behind the beautiful open world lies a sin that I cannot forgive PlayStation.

Nixxes Software makes a great port of one of the most beloved games in the PS4 catalogue.

No game is perfect, and Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut is the perfect example of how the sum of the parts exceeds the whole. Sucker Punch has suffered from presenting the best possible brilliance since its launch in 2019, but now we’re faced with a problem PC version, after beating PS5. The developer took two giant leaps to create an open world that remains absurdly beautiful.

The adventure takes us to the end of the 13th century, during the expansion of the Mongol Empire to the east. The island of Tsushima becomes the first bastion against Khotun Khan’s military threat against Japan, and Jin Sakai must defend his family name associated with the great samurai dynasty.

You all already know this story, or at least that’s not the reason you have to stop here; The swordsman experiences an adventure full of exploration, plot twists and plenty of action. I enjoyed it like a dwarf two years ago and recently closed the chapter on the island of Iki, but getting all the visual juice out of it using my computer is no trivial task. I have a video card GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB GDDR6CPU Intel Core i7-13700F 2.1 GHz/5.2 GHz and memory 32 GB RAMso I had no problems with compression Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. While I don’t have an Ultrawide (21:9), Super Ultrawide (32:9) or even a 48:9 Triple Monitor, the truth is that at 1440p at 60fps, every inch of the scene looks great.

And with a really nice consistency, always showing a smooth flow that is not interrupted by issues like stuttering. Except support for NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 3 and Intel XeSS Add that extra boost to teams that need it. Among the most interesting new releases is one that offers an experience of the purest Kurosawa style; Use the black and white filter, activate the Japanese language and enjoy lip syncing in that language only on PC.

Although the experience is much more in line with the DualSense’s features, there are no problems when playing either with the Xbox controller or directly with the keyboard. In any case, the feeling is great. Of course, the map loading is great, with the game launching in about five seconds as soon as we press the start button in the menu. As for the quality of textures and graphics, there can be no complaints here, considering that this great job Nixxes Software. The decision to buy a studio to port the game to PC turned out to be a success for Sony.

However, the most striking thing is that PSN integration, or rather, with the recently released interface for computers. For the plot, linking Epic or Steam accounts to the Japanese company’s service is by no means necessary – after the incident with Helldivers 2, this would be a shot in the foot – but for the Legends multiplayer mode it is necessary. Cross-play with console players is activated here, opening up a number of possibilities for finding companions. In any case, the company is already busy launching very juicy baits as soon as the title starts.

The Master Archer’s Outfit and Dog Recruiting Amulet are two incentives for platform synchronization, but they also open the door to an interface that is in its infancy. Not in a derogatory or contemptuous way, but rather Sony’s first step into system interconnection and offer shared experiences. This is not aggressive at all, and will only appear if we call it by pressing Shift+F1. This is what it looks like in the main menu Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut.

The basic functions that we can find on PS5 and PS4 are present, such as viewing our friends list, our profile and the trophy list. Linking does not create two separate lists., but rather adds a PC icon next to the PS5 icon, as in my case. Unlike what happens when we transfer a save file from PS4 to PS5, on PC we will not automatically unlock Steam achievements equivalent to Sony trophies.

It is the Trophy/achievement that you see that appeared after interacting with Baku, in which the game considered it a New Game+, even though it had no previous save files. And this is the main absence that I noticed in Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cutbecause I needed the cross save feature like a sore thumb, but it just isn’t there.

It would be great to transfer all of my progress I’ve made with Jin Sakai on PS5 to PC without having to rebuild all of my progress again. I know I’m not the target audience for this release, as it’s aimed at Steam and Epic Games Store users who, for the most part, haven’t tried the game yet. However, you can’t help but look at your Xbox neighbors and be convinced that playing on console and PC is synonymous with continuing from the same point.

Sony has responsibilities in this regard, although it’s also fair to be patient with a feature that today, with so many devices and gaming centers, seems necessary. We’ll see what new features will be added in the future, but the present is quite in line with expectations.
