The UdeC Faculty of Medicine has launched its centenary year and announced 100 events for 2024.

Thanks to the presence of health authorities, universities and academia, as well as the enormous assistance of government officials, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Concepción opened this Monday, January 8, at the beginning of its centenary, with the first of 100 activities that will be carried out during the year 2024 .

The event took place in the Dr. Ivar Hermansen P. Auditorium and attracted more than one hundred guests, led by the Rector of the University of Concepción, Dr. Carlos Saavedra Rubilar; Seremi de Salud, Dr. Eduardo Barra Jofre, Provost Dr. Paulina Rincon Gonzalez; Vice-Rector for Research and Development Dr. Andrea Rodríguez Tastet and Vice-Rector for Economic and Administrative Affairs Dr. Miguel Quiroga Suazo, as well as former Deans of the Faculty of Medicine Drs. Also present at the ceremony were Mario Valdivia Peralta, Raul Gonzalez Ramos and Octavio Enriquez Lorca, the latter also professor emeritus of the Faculty of Medicine, as well as doctors Eduardo Fasce Henri and Benjamin Vicente Parada.

The guest speaker was Dr. Laura Benedetti Reiman, Director of the Program for Regional Historical Research (PIHER), Co-Editor of the UdeC History Magazine and Director of the BA History Program. The academic, who holds a master’s and doctorate in history, took a pleasant tour of the 100th anniversary of medicine in Concepción, the scientific impulse, the service and the female faces that resulted from the establishment of a medical school in the city.

In her greeting, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Alejandra Ceballos Morales highlighted the meeting, noting that it is much more than just an activity, as it represents the result of several intense months of work that will be expressed throughout the year. and who anticipate new opportunities such as critical reflection, recognition, and renewed commitment to the pursuit of continuous improvement. “We hope that this century will give us the opportunity for growth that we are already experiencing,” he expressed.

The central part of the ceremony was led by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Ana Maria Moraga, who spoke in 10 chapters about what the last 100 years have been like. On this occasion, he analyzed the global, Latin American and local Chilean context that prevailed at the time, emphasizing that “times they change” and the importance of knowing this history in order to continue to prepare to face the challenges associated with it. those who demand timely and appropriate health measures from the health care professionals who make up the academic unit.

In this sense, the leadership of the Faculty of Medicine stated that “we have a Faculty Strategic Plan, which has allowed us to identify opportunities for growth and development, as well as challenges that we need to strategically move forward towards in order to achieve the vision that we have.” built on our faculty, and in which the priorities are the well-being of society, graduate studies, the creation and dissemination of knowledge, communication with the environment, the renewal of administrative processes and the maintenance of achieved processes.

Regarding challenges, Dr. Ana Maria Moraga mentioned the approach of new technologies in the field of digital health, robotics and artificial intelligence, as they will become part of professional work, contributing to the creation of new knowledge, research centers and the creation of initiatives on priority health issues. Incorporate the humanities into the training of new generations to strengthen the necessary outlook and action to solve people’s problems, and to view and understand the global world in order to be attentive to the development of the epidemiological situation and be prepared for new scenarios. this will happen, and all this will always be at the forefront of the minds of the students taught by the Faculty of Medicine at UdeC.

As part of this commemorative ceremony at the beginning of the 100th anniversary, Dr. Moraga invited the entire community to participate in the 100 events organized for 2024, which will be the first and in parallel 15 summer schools that will be held. They were developed on the initiative of faculty teachers. In addition, he shared a video report of the centenary with those present.

In conclusion, the Rector of the University of Concepción, Dr. Carlos Saavedra Rubilar, congratulated the academic community and all employees of UdeC Medicine, emphasizing that this milestone at the beginning of the centenary year allows for the maximum development of capabilities and capabilities.
