This “hairy” fruit will restore your vitality in four days.

Incorporating nutrient-dense foods into your diet is a great way to improve your physical and mental well-being, especially during times of change. Adjustments to post-Christmas holiday routines, including the flu epidemic and sudden temperature changes, do this January is one of the most difficult months of the year to maintain a positive mood.

Many people turn to food or vitamin supplements to make up for their lack of energy, but in supermarkets and fruit shops we can find a fruit that, according to new research, can restore our vitality in less than a week. This is kiwi, known for its high vitamin C content. which can help prevent flu and colds, as well as its antioxidant properties that help slow aging.

Now a group of researchers from University of Otago (New Zealand) have shown that kiwi can be a powerful mood stimulant, and have also proven how fast its effects can be. In progress, published in British Journal of Nutritionresearchers found that This fruit improves vitality and mood in just four days.

Co-author, teacher Tamlyn Connerfrom the Faculty of Psychology, says the results offer people a “tangible and accessible” way to improve your state of mind. “People like to know that small changes to their diet, like adding kiwi, can make a difference in how they feel every day,” he says, according to Ep.

Vitamin C intake is associated with improved mood, vitality, well-being and less depression, while vitamin C deficiency is associated with more depression and cognitive impairment. However, Conner says there are few studies that have assessed how quickly mood improvements occur after vitamin C supplements or whole foods.

The researchers decided to fill this gap with An 8-week dietary intervention in 155 adults with low vitamin C status. Participants took a vitamin C supplement, a placebo, or two kiwis daily. They then reported their vitality, mood, satisfaction, sleep quality, amount of sleep and physical activity via smartphone surveys.

Express improvement

The researchers found that kiwi supplements improved vitality and mood after four days, peaking at days 14 to 16, and improved well-being starting at day 14. Vitamin C, in turn, slightly improved mood until day 12.

Lead author Ben Fletcher says understanding the nuances of when and how these effects occur in everyday life contributes to understanding the potential benefits of vitamin C-rich foods and supplements for mental health. “It helps us understand that what we eat can affect how we feel relatively quickly,” he says. “Although vitamin C tablets showed some improvement, the study highlights the possible synergistic effect of consuming whole foods such as kiwi,” he adds.
