Who is Abby and who plays her?

The Last of Us has cast Kaitlyn Dever as Abby in the second season of the post-apocalyptic series based on the video game of the same name.

The 27-year-old actor will join Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal in the second installment of the Sky exclusive series, set to premiere in 2025.

While fans of the games are eagerly awaiting the news, those who are not as familiar with The Last Of Us’ story after the conclusion of the first season may be a little confused. Let us explain…

In The Last Of Us, Abby Anderson is the daughter of Gerry Anderson, a chief surgeon working for the antagonistic revolutionary group Fireflies.

After a turning point in her life, Abby sets out to take revenge by becoming a key character in the second part of the popular game.

She is a playable dual protagonist in The Last of Us Part II, and some argue that she is more of a protagonist than Ellie.

Although she is often considered a villain in the game, she is not necessarily evil, rather filled with the need to avenge her loved ones and complete conviction in her beliefs.

Abby is certainly a complex character who embodies moral ambiguity, and while we understand her anger and intentions, the standard Joel and Ellie supportive stance from the first game (and series) makes it difficult to fully root for her.

She is voiced in the game by Laura Bailey, also known for Fullmetal Alchemist, World of Warcraft, and Bleach, who had a cameo in the first season of the series, as did fellow stars Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Geoffrey Pierce. and Merle Dandridge (who reprized the role of Marlene).

For Dever, this is her first “villain” role, but not her first connection to a video game, as she voiced Cassie Drake in 2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

Appearing in a number of feature films such as the high school film Booksmart, the biographical drama Beautiful Boy and the Hulu sci-fi thriller No One Can Save You, Dever has a promising range.

And considering she also received two Golden Globe nominations for her TV performances in Unbelievable and Unbelievable, we have no doubt she’ll do justice to her character.

You can watch The Last Of Us as all episodes of the first season are now available on Sky Atlantic.
