Who is Bella Poarch? We reveal the many controversies of the creator of TikTok’s most popular video

TIkTok’s latest overnight sensation is Bella Poarch, a social media influencer known for her subtle lip-sync videos and plenty of controversy.

Although she only joined the app in April 2020, she averages about 1 million new followers every day, according to YouTuber Def Noodles, which tracks influencer trends. At the time of publication, she has 39 million subscribers.

Here’s what we know so far about the TikToker, from her path to social media fame to her many controversies.

Bella Poarch’s video has the most likes on TikTok.

On Aug. 17, Poarch shared a simple video of herself lip-syncing to Millie B’s “M to the B” and then bobbing her head and squinting her eyes to the beat. Less than a month later, the video became the most popular video on TikTok, racking up a whopping 36.5 million likes and 145.3 million views.

She faced backlash after the pole caught fire. The post has received over 1 million comments, and the vast majority of posts seem to echo the same sentiment: “Why does this post have so many likes?”

In her first TikTok video, which she posted on April 10, she pretends to play a video game while the audio of someone being harshly insulted plays over the footage. This post, like many of her others, was described as “low effort.”

Despite being criticized for being “famous for no reason”, Poarch continued to gain popularity. After her massive video went viral, she changed her content strategy and focused almost entirely on lip-sync videos shot with a face tracking filter.

How old is Bella Poarch? Nobody seems to know.

According to PopBuzz, Poarch was born in the Philippines on February 8, 2001, making her 19 years old. However, Famous Birthdays states that Poarch was born on the same day in 1997, making her 23 years old.

So which one is right? Good question.

September 10 Poarch tweeted about his appearance at famous birthdays website, which for many TikTok stars is a sign that they have made it big. At that time, her age was stated as 19. She did not correct it, so many people assumed that this was confirmation of her real age.

Poarch also claimed to have served in the US Navy. A post on her Facebook page states that she was stationed in Japan in 2017, but if her real age is indeed 19, then she would have been 16 at that time. You must be at least 17 years old to enlist in the US Navy.

It is likely that Poarch is older than 19, but she has never officially confirmed her age, so the mystery is not yet solved.

There are questions regarding the authenticity of Bella Poarch’s social media presence and real name.

While Poarch is quickly becoming one of TikTok’s most popular users, much of his online presence is relatively new.

Her YouTube, TikTok, Twitch and Twitter All accounts were created between March and May 2020.

Although her Instagram and Facebook accounts existed before 2017, the URL for her Facebook account ends in “TaylorNariee”, which is not the name she uses. Google search results for “Taylor Nary” and “Nary Taylor” yield no information about anyone similar to Poarch.

In a 2018 Instagram post of Poarch wearing a uniform, the name on her shirt appears to be “Taylor,” also suggesting that Poarch may not be her real last name.

Poarch may have decided to reinvent herself and use a different social media handle, and there’s certainly nothing wrong with that—just ask Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (Lady Gaga) and Belcalis Almanzar (Cardi B). We just don’t know for sure what the name is.

A TikTok star has been accused of making a racist statement in a Facebook post.

In the same Facebook post in which she claimed to have served in the Navy in 2017, Poarch referred to her friend, a person of color, as Harambe, the name of a gorilla shot and killed at the Cincinnati Zoo.

Poarch responded to the backlash in another Facebook post, but did not apologize.

“You are actually trying to cancel my call for calling my friend Harambe. “That was his nickname when we were in Japan!” she wrote.

She doubled down on her statement. on Twitter later this afternoon.

Bella Poarch has a very offensive “rising sun” tattoo.

Poarch has a tattoo on his arm of the Japanese “rising sun” flag, a red ball with 16 red rays that was the war flag of Imperial Japan from 1870 until the end of World War II.

For many, especially those in countries that were victims of the atrocities of Japan’s imperialist past, the symbol is considered a hateful reminder of human rights abuses during that painful time. Some even compare it to the Nazi swastika.

Poarch responded to countless comments telling her that her tattoo was considered a hate symbol with a TikTok video.

“I’m really sorry if my tattoo offended you. I love Korea. Please forgive me,” she wrote in her post.

After other users left comments on her post saying “this is not an apology” and “you’re kidding,” Poarch took to Twitter to apologize.

“I apologize to the Koreans because 6 months ago I got a tattoo of a red sun with 16 rays. I didn’t know history at the time.” she wrote. “But when I found out about it, I immediately covered it up and scheduled it for removal. I’m ashamed of myself for not doing my research. I sincerely apologize.”

For many, these apologies are still not enough.

Bella Poarch was associated with content marketing company BAS.media.

In a video attempting to answer the question “Who is Bella Poarch?”, YouTuber Def Noodles revealed a number of interesting connections between the TikTok star and marketing company bas.media.

Poarch’s email address on her TikTok profile is bellapoarch@bas.media, and she has been since she skyrocketed to fame with her most viral video.

According to a Business Insider article about the top players using TikTok to influence the music industry, BAS.media is “a group of viral content marketers who have an exclusive partnership with Columbia Records to promote artists and tracks on TikTok and other social networks.” platforms.”

The company has several TikTok accounts that are used to promote music, such as Rapidsongs and Goalsounds… and is affiliated with Poarch.

Def Noodles noted that Poarch had shared several lip-syncing videos, especially after her “M to the B” video went viral. He suggested that Poarch might be hired by BAS.media to promote music from Columbia Records.

Of course, we’re not saying that Poarch is a music industry ambassador on TikTok who isn’t using her real name or age—it’s just that there’s no denying that she’s compiled a surprising amount of mysteries and controversies for a user who just joined TikTok in April. .

A viral video making wild claims about Poarch’s involvement with the Illuminati went viral in October.

On Oct. 8, TikToker larissadenisee shared a theory that Poarch “sold her soul to the devil” for influence—an outlandish but not unpopular conspiracy that is often faced by fast-rising stars like the D’Amelio sisters.

Larissadenisi said Poarch’s alleged military background contrasted with her “childish personality” and hinted that there was something fishy about it.

She then revealed that she was wearing devil makeup in one of Poarch’s previous posts.

“You put the pieces together,” she said in the video, which was extremely vague but still racked up more than 6 million views.

Larissadenisee didn’t substantiate any of her claims, other than a screenshot of a photo of Poarch in devilish makeup, and comments about her conspiracy on TikToks have been predictably muted since then.

“People say Bella Poarch sold her soul to the devil for TikTok numbers, but seriously, it’s just the power of one beautiful girl and her army of simpletons,” one of them. A Twitter user summed it up aptly:.

“Some girl on TikTok is literally telling people that Bella Poarch sold her soul to the devil for influence on TikTok.” another user tweeted. “And her reasoning is that when she saw Bella’s photo, she thought of the word ‘Illuminati’??? oh my god, I hate the internet sometimes, AHJAJD.”

Poarch and BAS.media did not respond to In The Know’s request for comment on this story, but we hope the controversy will be resolved and the secrets will be revealed soon.
