Casper Ruud has expressed his desire to aim for big trophies and the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell is not a side project. The Norwegian advanced to the grand final in Barcelona this Saturday, enduring the pressure that has made him the most prominent figure in the team since the start of the competition. While it is on clay that he exerts his greatest authority, the Scandinavian has offered a new test of endurance in the heart of the tour.

The PIF ATP number 6 stopped the cyclone by beating Argentina’s Tomas Martin Echeverry 7-6(6), 6-4 in a match that could have had a much more difficult scenario. Ruud managed to maintain the set point in the first set before turning his attention to the South American, who became one of the protagonists of the week on Catalan clay.

Casper’s confidence was enough to write a new golden page in 2024. The Norwegian, runner-up at last week’s Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, is signing his fourth ATP Tour final of the season after also coming within one shot of the trophy in Acapulco and Los Cabos. No other player has shown such versatility this season, scoring multiple goals on two different surfaces.

Did you know…?
Casper Ruud has won nine of his ten ATP Tour titles on clay courts. The Norwegian, who is aiming for the biggest trophy of his Barcelona career, has demonstrated his persistence in classic surface competitions such as Buenos Aires, Bastad, Gstaad, Geneva, Kitzbühel and Estoril. Barcelona can join this fabulous catalog of conquests.
